The bare-faced curassow is a large bird of the curassow family, 82–92cm long, and the sexes look different. The male is blackish with a faint greenish-olive gloss, has bare yellowish skin on its face, a small black crest and white underparts. The female has a black head, throat, neck and upper back, a black-and-white barred crest, greenish-black upperparts barred with white or ochre, and black underparts with ochre barring on the breast that pales to a yellowish belly. Her facial skin is blackish (Wikipedia, general species account). It averages about 2.6kg (AVONET, Tobias et al. 2022).

It lives in moist, semi-deciduous and gallery forest, usually near the edges of woodland, and mainly eats fruit, with seeds, flowers and small invertebrates also taken (Wikipedia, general species account). It mainly uses riparian and gallery forest, but it will also use cerrado sensu stricto and may approach houses in rural areas to search for food (Alteff 2023). Breeding takes place in summer in the southern part of its range, and the nest is a platform of sticks placed in a tree (Wikipedia, general species account). Hunting and destruction of its habitat are named as threats (Wikipedia, general species account).
